Heavy Rain Triggers Weather Alert Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, August 13, 2026: Odisha is witnessing an active monsoon spell on Thursday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall reported or forecast in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha today amid an intensifying low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather has disrupted normal life in several areas, with waterlogging reported in low-lying locations and the possibility of flooding in vulnerable areas. Heavy rain may also affect road traffic and visibility, while thunderstorms and lightning are expected in some districts.

Rourkela recorded 10 cm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm on Thursday, according to the IMD’s latest rainfall observations. Several other parts of Odisha also experienced heavy

The rainfall has raised concerns over crop damage, waterlogging, local flooding and disruption to transport in affected areas. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone locations have been advised to remain alert and follow local administration and weather advisories.

The IMD forecast indicates that widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue over Odisha through  .August 15 , with heavy rainfall possible in isolated areas over the following days as well.

Authorities and residents are closely monitoring the situation as the monsoon system remains active across the state.
