Over 30 Cattle Rescued as Illegal Transport Container Seized in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj
Baisinga (Mayurbhanj), August 13: More than 30 cattle were rescued after an alleged illegal cattle transport container was intercepted and seized on National Highway-18 near Hatijhuri under Baisinga police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to reports, activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) received specific information about a container suspected of illegally transporting cattle. The vehicle, bearing a Bihar registration number, was allegedly tracked from the Betnoti area by over 20 VHP volunteers.
After a prolonged chase, the container was intercepted near Hatijhuri on NH-18. Baisinga police soon reached the spot and opened the container for inspection in the presence of the activists.
During the inspection, officials found more than 30 cows and calves packed inside the container in extremely poor and inhumane conditions. The animals were rescued, and the container was taken into police custody for further investigation.
The driver reportedly told police that the container was travelling from Muzaffarpur in Bihar to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. However, authorities are verifying the claim and investigating whether the cattle were being transported in violation of animal transport regulations.
Local residents appreciated the efforts of the VHP activists for alerting the authorities and assisting in the rescue operation. Police are examining the documents related to the vehicle and the cattle and are expected to initiate appropriate legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
