PM Modi Hoists Tricolour at Delhi’s Red Fort, India Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour
New Delhi, August 15, 2026: India celebrated its 80th Independence Day on Saturday with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm across the country, with the main national ceremony held at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national celebrations by unfurling the Tricolour from the ramparts of the Red Fort and addressing the nation. The ceremony featured a grand display of India’s cultural heritage, military strength and the spirit of national unity.
A special highlight of this year’s celebrations was the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram, with the national song being rendered at the Red Fort as part of the official ceremony. The celebrations also placed a strong focus on “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047”, highlighting the role of India’s youth in the country’s future development.
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence and spoke about the country’s progress and future priorities. In his Independence Day address, he announced several initiatives focused on youth, including free online coaching and measures aimed at supporting young Indians.e
The national capital witnessed tight security arrangements and extensive preparations for the celebrations. Thousands of dignitaries, students, beneficiaries of government schemes and invited guests attended the ceremony at the Red Fort.
