Contract Worker Killed in Rockfall at Barsuan Iron Ore Mine in Sundargarh
Koida, Sundargarh: A contract worker was killed in a tragic accident at the Barsuan Iron Ore Mine under the Koida mining circle of Sundargarh district on Monday morning.
According to reports, the deceased worker, identified as Tarun Bhumij , was collecting samples at the mine’s Valley Point around 6:30 am when a mass of iron ore suddenly collapsed on him. He became trapped beneath the falling rocks.

Other workers who were operating nearby noticed the incident and immediately launched a rescue operation. Tarun was pulled out from beneath the debris and rushed to Tensa Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead after his arrival.
Protest at Mine Gate
Following the worker’s death, family members and fellow contract workers staged a protest outside the main gate of the Barsuan Iron Ore Mine , placing the deceased’s body at the site.
The protesters reportedly demanded justice for the deceased worker and appropriate action in connection with the fatal workplace accident.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over worker safety and safety protocols at mining sites in the region. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the rockfall and the response of the mining authorities are awaited.
