Another Low-Pressure Likely on August 23; Rain to Return After Three-Day Break in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, August 20, 2026: Odisha is likely to experience another spell of rainfall after a brief three-day break, with a fresh low-pressure system expected to form over the Bay of Bengal around August 23, according to the weather update .
The developing weather system is expected to influence rainfall activity over Odisha, bringing back rain after a temporary improvement in weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is closely monitoring the system and its likely movement.
At present, a low-pressure area is located over the Jharkhand and adjoining North Gangetic West Bengal region, and its influence is expected to gradually weaken. Following this system, weather conditions are likely to remain relatively dry for around three days before rainfall activity increases again.
The upcoming low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal could bring moderate to heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha, depending on its intensity and movement. Coastal and interior districts may witness renewed rainfall activity after August 23.
Weather authorities have advised people to remain alert to further updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and localized flooding. Farmers and residents in low-lying areas are also advised to keep track of official weather warnings.
The IMD is expected to issue more detailed forecasts regarding the intensity, location and likely impact of the new system as it develops.
