Aadyasha News Digital Desk : A powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck Peru’s southern Andes region on Thursday, sending panic through several areas and forcing residents to evacuate their homes.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at around 1 p.m. local time and was centred near Upahuacho in the Ayacucho region. The tremor was felt across several parts of southern Peru, including Ica, Arequipa, Huancavelica, Apurimac and Cusco, and was also felt in the capital, Lima.

Authorities reported that at least two people were injured during evacuations. Several houses, health centres and a school also suffered damage in affected areas, while rockfalls were reported near Coracora. Peru’s Navy said there was no tsunami threat.
