Bhubaneswar, August 28, 2026: The Odisha Government has accepted the resignation of Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena, a 2013-batch IPS officer, and forwarded the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further action.
Meena had tendered his resignation from the All India Services citing personal reasons. He said the decision was taken after discussions with his family and friends and stressed that it was not the result of any external pressure or political intervention. He has also requested that his privacy be respected.
The 37-year-old IPS officer, who hails from Rajasthan, is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, where he completed his B.Tech and M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering. He joined the Indian Police Service after securing All India Rank 849 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
During his nearly 13-year career in the Odisha cadre, Meena served as Superintendent of Police in Malkangiri, Angul and Ganjam districts. He also served as DCP of Cuttack before taking charge as Bhubaneswar DCP on February 28, 2025.
Meena has not disclosed his plans after leaving the service. Earlier reports had indicated that he could explore opportunities in the private sector, but the officer has maintained that his decision is personal.
With the state government forwarding the resignation and NOC to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the matter now awaits the Centre’s formal approval. Under the applicable All India Services rules, the resignation of an IPS officer becomes effective only after approval by the competent authority at the Union level.
Meena has expressed gratitude to the people of Odisha for the support and affection he received during his postings across the state.
