Loan App Scam: Easy Credit Turns Into a Trap
Sambalpur, September 21: The growing use of instant loan applications has raised concerns over online financial fraud, with many people reportedly falling into traps set by unauthorised digital lenders.
These applications often attract users by promising quick loans with minimal documentation. People facing financial difficulties, particularly those who may not easily obtain loans from conventional banks or financial institutions, can become vulnerable to such offers.
According to the newspaper report, some fraudulent loan applications seek extensive access to users’ mobile phones, including contacts, photographs and other personal information. After obtaining such permissions, fraudsters may allegedly use the data to intimidate or harass borrowers when repayment is delayed.
The problem can become more serious when borrowers are charged high fees and interest, while the actual terms and conditions are not clearly explained. In some cases, borrowers may find themselves under increasing financial pressure and face repeated demands for payment.
Cybersecurity experts and authorities have advised people to verify the credentials of any digital lending platform before applying for a loan. Users should check whether the lender is authorised and avoid downloading suspicious applications or granting unnecessary access to personal data.
People should also avoid sharing sensitive information such as bank details, passwords, OTPs and identity documents with unknown persons or unauthorised applications. Any suspected online financial fraud should be reported immediately to the appropriate cybercrime authorities.
Easy and instant loans may appear attractive, but users should verify the lender, understand the repayment terms and carefully check app permissions before proceeding.
