SAMBALPUR: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has intensified its campaign on several issues concerning Sambalpur and Western Odisha, with former Odisha minister and BJD district president Rohit Pujari leading a door-to-door postcard signature campaign.

According to Pujari, several important commitments concerning Sambalpur were made before the last Assembly election, including the establishment of an AIIMS facility, a High Court Bench in Western Odisha, official recognition for the Sambalpuri language, strengthening of the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) office, improved roads and civic infrastructure, uninterrupted electricity, better sanitation and 24-hour drinking-water supply.

Pujari has alleged that despite the BJP government completing more than two years in office, several of these issues remain unresolved. The BJD has therefore taken the campaign directly to the people, with party workers visiting households across Sambalpur and collecting signatures on postcards.

“The demands raised in this campaign are matters of the rights and aspirations of the people of Sambalpur,” Pujari said, according to the report provided. He said the campaign would continue from one household to another to build public participation around these issues.

The campaign is focused on gathering signatures from residents and presenting the collected postcards to the appropriate authorities. Reports on the campaign also describe AIIMS and a High Court Bench as two of the principal demands, alongside recognition of Sambalpuri and improvements in civic infrastructure.

The initiative has given renewed political attention to long-standing development and regional issues in Sambalpur. The BJD maintains that the postcard campaign is intended to place the demands directly before the authorities through the participation of ordinary residents.

Pujari said the door-to-door campaign would continue and that the signatures collected from households would subsequently be submitted to the President of India, seeking attention to the demands raised by the people of Sambalpur.
