BJP Unveils ‘Team Nitin Nabin’: Smriti Irani Returns, Ram Madhav and Vasundhara Raje Get Key Roles
New Delhi, August 17, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new national office-bearers under party president Nitin Nabin, marking a major organisational reshuffle ahead of crucial Assembly elections.
The new leadership team brings together experienced leaders, younger faces and representatives from different regions, with the BJP aiming to strengthen its organisational structure and electoral preparedness.
Smriti Irani Makes Comeback
One of the biggest highlights of the reshuffle is the return of former Union Minister Smriti Irani to the BJP’s top organisational leadership. She has been appointed a National General Secretary and given responsibility as the party’s general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly elections are scheduled next year.
Irani had been out of the BJP’s top organisational structure since June 2024 after losing the Amethi Lok Sabha seat.
Ram Madhav Returns to National Leadership
Former BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav has also made a significant comeback. He has been appointed one of the party’s 13 National Vice Presidents, signalling the BJP’s renewed reliance on experienced organisational leaders.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has also retained her position as a National Vice President.
Piyush Goyal Named National Treasurer
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP’s National Treasurer, while Rajesh Mangal has been named Joint Treasurer. The appointment is among the key organisational changes announced by the party.
B.L. Santhosh will continue as the BJP’s National General Secretary (Organisation).
New Team Focuses on Experience and Youth
The BJP’s new structure includes 13 National Vice Presidents, eight National General Secretaries and 16 National Secretaries. Several new faces have been inducted, including Sandeep Pathak, K. Surendran and Anil Antony.
The party has also made changes to its media and social-media teams. Deepak Mhaskey has been appointed Social Media Convenor, replacing Amit Malviya in the role.
Sambit Patra Gets Northeast Responsibility
Odisha BJP leader Sambit Patra has been appointed the party’s Northeast Coordinator, while Rajiv Babbar has been named Joint Coordinator.
The new team also includes several prominent regional leaders, reflecting the BJP’s effort to expand its organisational reach across states.
PM Modi Congratulates New Office-Bearers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed BJP office-bearers, describing the new team as a combination of organisational experience, energy and grassroots connect.
The reshuffle comes months ahead of several important electoral battles and is being viewed as a major organisational exercise by Nitin Nabin as he seeks to give fresh momentum to the BJP’s national machinery.
