Balangir, August 23, 2026: In a major armed robbery in Balangir district, unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments worth around ₹1 crore from the residence of a gold businessman near Sindhekela Police Station late at night.

The incident reportedly took place at the house of gold trader Phulchand Jain, located just around 100 metres from the Sindhekela Police Station. The proximity of the crime scene to the police station has raised serious questions about the security arrangements in the area.

Family Members Threatened at Gunpoint

According to reports, the miscreants entered the house when Phulchand Jain’s son and daughter-in-law were away. At the time, his elderly father, mother and sister were reportedly present inside the house.

The intruders allegedly brandished weapons and threatened the family members before taking them hostage-like and fleeing with gold ornaments kept inside the residence. The estimated value of the stolen jewellery is around ₹1 crore, though the exact value is yet to be established.

The incident has triggered fear among residents, particularly because the alleged robbery occurred only about 100 metres from the local police station.

Police Launch Investigation

Following information about the robbery, Sindhekela Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are trying to determine the exact number of people involved in the crime, the route used by the robbers to escape and the precise value of the stolen jewellery.

Police are also collecting evidence from the crime scene and examining available leads in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspects at the earliest.

Security Concerns Rise in Balangir

The incident has sparked concern among local residents over law and order and nighttime security in the area. The fact that such a serious armed robbery allegedly took place close to a police station has intensified questions about the preparedness of local security personnel.

The investigation is currently underway, and further details are expected as police make progress in identifying the accused and recovering the stolen jewellery.
