Rourkela Circuit House Security Lapse: Big Questions Raised
By Saroj Kumar Rout
Rourkela, August 24: A serious controversy has emerged over the alleged stay of criminals, including persons reportedly linked to an arms-related case, at the Rourkela Circuit House. The incident has raised major questions about security, room booking procedures and accountability among officials responsible for the management of the government facility.
According to reports, the case came to light after police apprehended an accused person along with a firearm and live ammunition. During the subsequent investigation, it was alleged that the accused and his associates had stayed at the Circuit House, bringing the functioning and supervision of the facility under scrutiny.
Report alleged that the individuals were provided accommodation in rooms meant for VIP guests and remained there for an extended period. It further raised questions over how the room booking was approved, whether proper guest records and verification procedures were followed, and how the stay continued beyond the initially booked period.
The report also questioned the role of officials responsible for the Circuit House administration. It alleged that while junior officials and employees were being questioned during the investigation, there were concerns that responsibility for the alleged lapses could be shifted onto subordinate staff instead of fixing accountability at the appropriate administrative level.
Police have reportedly questioned officials connected with the management and booking of rooms at the Circuit House. The investigation is expected to examine the booking records, duration of stay, identity details of the guests and whether the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and government protocols were followed.
The matter has triggered public concern, with questions being raised over how persons allegedly involved in criminal activities could obtain accommodation at a government facility under such circumstances. The report also sought clarification on whether any departmental audit or internal inquiry was conducted after the alleged irregularities came to light.
As the investigation continues, the case is expected to focus on establishing responsibility and determining whether there were procedural lapses or negligence in the management of the Circuit House. The concerned authorities are yet to publicly clarify all the issues raised in the report.
