Bonai, August 24: Residents of Bonai in Sundargarh district are still waiting for the launch of an FM radio service, despite repeated expectations and discussions regarding the establishment of an FM station in the area.

The issue has once again come into focus as the proposed FM radio facility has yet to become operational. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had earlier taken steps towards expanding FM radio services to areas such as Bonai, raising hopes among local residents that they would soon have access to a dedicated radio service.

According to the report, people in Bonai had expected the FM station to become functional after the necessary infrastructure and related work were taken up. However, the project has reportedly faced delays, leaving residents uncertain about when they will finally be able to receive FM broadcasts locally.

The demand for an FM station is particularly significant because radio remains an important medium for disseminating information, government announcements, educational programmes, agricultural advisories and entertainment to people in remote and semi-urban areas.

Local residents have expressed disappointment over the delay and are seeking clarity from the concerned authorities regarding the present status of the project and the expected date of commissioning.

The report highlights that while expectations among the people had increased following government initiatives, the continued delay has gradually weakened those hopes.

Residents are now urging the concerned department and authorities to complete the remaining work at the earliest and make the FM service operational.
