Voice of Media Holds General Council Meeting in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Zone of Voice of Media held its General Council Meeting at Narayani Satsang Bhavan in Khetrajpur on Sunday. Journalists and office-bearers from different blocks across Sambalpur district participated in the meeting.

The programme was attended by State President Prabhat Kumar Mishra, State Secretary Sukanta Parida, North Zone President Radheshyam Panda, and Professor Biranchi Khadia, who were present on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers discussed the growing influence of social media on journalism. They observed that almost every type of news is now being disseminated through social media platforms, making it increasingly important for journalists to remain honest, responsible and committed to professional ethics.

The speakers stressed that fake news and misinformation can have a damaging impact on society and urged journalists to verify information thoroughly before publishing or broadcasting it. They said responsible journalism is essential for maintaining public trust and strengthening democracy.

Speaking on the welfare of journalists, State President Prabhat Kumar Mishra said that Voice of Media has been working for the safety and welfare of journalists, including issues related to security and pension benefits.

New Committee Announced

During the meeting, the Zone President announced the new committee for Sambalpur. The newly appointed office-bearers include:

  • Basant Swain – District President
  • Tikeshwar Pradhan – Secretary
  • Harishankar Mishra – Mandal President
  • Chandra Chuda Singh – Vice-President
  • Sanjog Dash – Joint Secretary/Coordinator
  • Jagannath Bhibhar – Joint Secretary
  • Ramesh Pradhan – Joint Treasurer
  • Alok Kumar Das – Departmental Secretary

Senior Journalists Honoured

The organisation also felicitated senior journalists for their contribution to journalism. Sujit Kumar Panigrahi, head of the Sambalpur Samaja office, was honoured as a distinguished journalist.

Dasarathi Behera, head of the Sambalpur Navabharat office, was also felicitated for his contribution to the field.

Several other journalists who attended the programme were also honoured during the event.

The meeting concluded with the singing of the Voice of Media anthem, marking the end of the General Council Meeting.
