Redhakhol, August 25, 2026: Residents of Redhakhol Sub-Division staged a protest in front of the Sub-Collector’s Office on Tuesday, demanding the immediate reopening of the blood bank at Redhakhol Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The agitation was organised over the prolonged closure of the blood bank, which has caused serious concern among local residents, particularly patients and their families who depend on timely access to blood during medical emergencies. The closure has also raised concerns among pregnant women, accident victims and patients requiring urgent transfusion services.

The protest continued for around four hours, with the people demanding a clear and immediate assurance from the administration regarding restoration of the blood bank service.

Following the continued agitation, administrative officials reached the protest site and held discussions with the representatives and members of the public. After the discussion, the administration provided a written assurance that the closed blood bank would be made operational within the next 15 days.

The written assurance brought an end to the immediate protest, with the public agreeing to wait for the administration to fulfil its commitment.

The issue of the Redhakhol blood bank had already triggered concern among local residents. An earlier report said the proposed agitation was aimed at pressing the authorities to restore blood bank services, which had reportedly remained suspended following non-renewal of its operating licence.

Residents have now urged the administration to complete all necessary formalities within the promised 15-day period and ensure that the blood bank becomes fully functional without further delay.

The reopening of the blood bank is being viewed as a critical public-health requirement for the Redhakhol Sub-Division, where access to emergency blood supplies can be crucial in saving lives.

The public has also made it clear that if the administration fails to honour its written commitment within the stipulated period, further democratic agitation may be considered.
