Children Forced to Face Problems Due to Lack of Functional Toilet Facilities in Anganwadi
Construction Quality and Implementation Under Question
Redhakhol, : A government-built toilet at an Anganwadi centre in the Redhakhol area BURDA GP has reportedly remained unused and neglected, raising questions about the utilisation of public funds and the implementation of welfare schemes.
According to the report, the toilet was constructed under a government scheme with the objective of providing sanitation facilities to children attending the Anganwadi centre. However, despite the construction, the facility has allegedly not been put to proper use. The surrounding area has become overgrown with vegetation, while the toilet remains in a neglected condition.
The report states that several Anganwadi centres in the area continue to face a shortage of basic sanitation facilities. As a result, children attending these centres are reportedly facing considerable inconvenience.
The toilet construction was undertaken under the Swachh Bharat Mission, with funds allocated during the 2024–25 financial years. The report mentions that toilets were constructed at several Anganwadi centres under the programme. However, questions are now being raised over whether the facilities were properly completed and made functional.
At some locations, toilets have reportedly been constructed but are not being used because of poor maintenance and lack of basic arrangements. The condition of the facility shown in the accompanying photograph has further highlighted concerns over monitoring and maintenance.
Local residents have questioned how government funds are being utilised when the intended beneficiaries are unable to use the facilities. They have urged the concerned authorities to inspect the Anganwadi centres, verify the expenditure and construction work, and take appropriate steps to make the toilets functional.
The issue has also raised broader concerns over the monitoring of government-funded infrastructure projects and the need to ensure that public money is actually benefiting the people for whom such schemes are intended.
