New Delhi: As many as 31 sitting Rajya Sabha MPs, or 14 per cent of those analysed, have declared assets worth more than ₹100 crore, according to an analysis released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) in June 2026.

The analysis examined the affidavits of 226 out of 233 sitting Rajya Sabha MPs. The report found that their combined declared assets stood at approximately ₹26,047 crore, with the average assets per MP estimated at ₹115.25 crore.

Among the major political parties, seven BJP MPs, six Congress MPs, two MPs each from YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had declared assets exceeding ₹100 crore.

The report also highlighted significant differences in the average declared assets across political parties. Rajya Sabha MPs belonging to the BRS had the highest average declared assets at ₹1,841.39 crore, followed by MPs of the Samajwadi Party at ₹399.71 crore, TDP at ₹251.95 crore, YSRCP at ₹170.88 crore and NCP at ₹149.35 crore. The average declared assets of BJP MPs analysed stood at ₹76.46 crore, while Congress MPs had an average of ₹130.37 crore.

At the state level, Telangana recorded the highest proportion, with four of its seven analysed Rajya Sabha MPs declaring assets above ₹100 crore. Andhra Pradesh followed with five out of 11 MPs, while Odisha had three out of 10 analysed MPs in the over-₹100-crore category.

The ADR analysis also covered the criminal, educational and other background details of the MPs. It found that 69 MPs (31 per cent) had declared criminal cases against themselves, while 36 MPs (16 per cent) had declared serious criminal cases.

ADR clarified that the figures are based on self-declared information contained in election affidavits and that the analysis covered 226 of the 233 sitting members because some affidavits were unavailable.
